The SMSKCC will host its Preview Party, tomorrow night with the opening of The International Fine Arts and Antique Dealers Show on Thursday, October 16th at The Seventh Regiment Armory on Park Avenue at 67th Street. The evening’s ticket sales are a major source of funding for SMSKCC, a volunteer organization whose mission is to promote the well being of patients, support cancer research and provide public education on the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer. Supporters will preview $250 million worth of fine art and antiques, which will be on display.

SMSKCC was organized in 1946 and changed the whole nature of volunteer work from the pre-World War II model of a “Lady Bountiful” to that of a full partnership with the institution. The members became directly involved in policy, fundraising and the support of research, education and patient care programs. In addition to raising more than $100 million, they have improved the ambience for the patients of the cancer center, which has become the best in the country, by providing recreational therapy, art, fresh flowers and religious services along with attentive ears and caring hands.

MUSE Film and Television's 11th annual Benefit was held at Lincoln Center on Monday, September 22nd, 2003. The evening highlighted the premiere screening of the new MUSE film, Imagining America, co-produced with Perry Films and Public Media, Inc. and conceived by John Carlin and Jonathan Fineberg.

Imagining America is a high-definition series for public television that traces the course of American culture in the Twentieth Century, showing how art, primarily painting, provided a place in which to imagine and re-imagine America.

The evening featured an auction of master prints by over twenty world-famous photographers. The images are of the American land and cityscape and portraits of American artists, all evoking Imagining America.

E.L. Doctorow was the guest speaker. Diandra de Morrell Douglas served as Chairman with Vice-Chairs Elizabeth Johnson, Gigi Mortimer, Veronique Pittman, Christine Schwarzman, and Mort Zuckerman.
