Guardian Angels hosted their 5th Annual "Guardians of the Children" Luncheon

On Friday October 10th at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, the Guardian Angels, a membership support group of the Jackson Memorial Foundation hosted their 5th Annual "Guardians of the Children" luncheon.   Tanya Capriles De Brillembourg, President & Founder of the SaludArte Foundation and Guardian Angels Co-Founder Norma Kipnis-Wilson, were honored for their selfless service to children. The luncheon was hosted by WSVN news anchor Belkys Nerey and featured informal modeling by CH Carolina Herrera, the primary sponsor of this year's luncheon.  Other corporate sponsors include OleoMed and Bill Ussery Motors, Inc.  There was an awards presentation and induction ceremony for new Guardian Angel members and for current members that have committed to renewing their membership for another 5 year term.

More than 350 of Miami's leading ladies attended including luncheon chair Ana Quincoces Rodriguez, as well as committee members Lourdes Arriola, Sonia Bacardi, Tanya Brillembourg, Ivette Corso, Fanny Dascal, Ileana Davide, Ana-Maria Davide Webster, Martha de Cespedes, Marilda Del Rey, Diane de Olazarra, Silvia Fortun, Lisa Marie Glode, Martha Gomez, Fana Holtz, Mariana Martinez, Rosa Mora, Mayra Ruiz, Jill Swerdlow and Betty Veliz.    

The Guardian Angels comprise 230 members whom each pledge $1,000 per year for five years to join this charitable group.  They are dedicated to providing the very best medical attention possible to the children being cared for at the Holtz Children's Hospital located at the University of Miami\Jackson Memorial Medical Center.  Proceeds from this year's luncheon will help to complete the renovations of the Pediatric Referral Unit and the Pediatric Transplant Surgical Unit on the 6th Floor of Holtz Children's Hospital.  Proceeds will also benefit Diana Celeste, a beautiful 8-year-old girl from Mexico, who received a life saving liver transplant through the Jackson Memorial Foundation's International Kids Fund.  She will now be able to receive the special medication she needs so her body will not reject the new liver.

27th MS Dinner Of Champions Honored Teri Garr

The stars on Broadway shined a little brighter a couple weeks ago when the New York City Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society honored legendary actress Teri Garr with a "Champion of the Arts" award at its 27th Dinner of Champions. The award recognizes Garr's work as an advocate on behalf of people with MS and her efforts to educate the public about the disease.

The Dinner of Champions is an annual event organized by the New York City Chapter of the National MS Society that recognizes individuals in both the public and private sectors who have worked to advance research, policy,education and general awareness of MS.

Over 700 people came out to honor the Oscar-nominated actress at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. In addition, the "Dinner of Champions Leadership Award" was presented to David L. Shedlarz, CFO of Pfizer Inc., for his leadership in building awareness for MS through education and the pharmaceutical industry's commitment to identifying treatments. Frank J. Borelli, retired CFO and Director of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., was honored as the NYC Chapter's "Volunteer of the Year" for his decades of dedication to the Chapter and the Society's mission.

Barbara Walters served as mistress of ceremonies for the gala event, which raised $1.4 million to fight multiple sclerosis. Broadway legend Patti LuPone also performed during the evening of accolades and tributes.

The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society is the oldest and largest nonprofit MS organization and the only voluntary health organization in the U.S. supporting international MS research. The Society supports more MS research and serves more people with MS than any other organization in the world.

The New York City Chapter creates and funds local programs and services for New Yorkers with MS and their families and supports the Society's national research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system.

In the Esquire Apartment at The Trump World Tower, a Superstar (in this case Ms. Beyonce Knowles!!) joined Mercedes-Benz to present the highly anticipated SLR McLaren for the first time in North America. With only 120 sold per year, the spectacular SLR McLaren, equipped with GULLWING doors and over 600 horsepower, will sell for over $400,000 when it arrives in the United States in 2004. This is truly the meeting of a superstar with a supercar.
