Search and Care, a non-profit, nonsectarian organization, was founded 31 years ago to meet the needs of the homebound elderly population on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Since 1972, it has helped over 5,200 older people to live independently in their own homes.

The small trained staff is augmented by volunteers and students who coordinate a variety of services, some of which are secured through social or government agencies such as Medicaid and Mealson- Wheels. Clients may also be provided basic health and counseling services, as well as free legal assistance, shopping, escorting, housekeeping and friendly visits—all things which make it possible for homebound people to retain their dignity and independence.

The Yorkville Ball is a major source of funding for Search and Care, Inc.

Young Hollywood put on its best game face for the launch party of the Activision video game "True Crime: Streets of LA" at Ivar Studios in Hollywood last week.

Flanked by video game machines and billiards tables, partiers such as actor Mark Wahlberg, publisher Jason Binn and red carpet critic Melissa Rivers came out to toast the arrival of the City of Angels' answer to "Vice City."

Generating some heat on the dance floor was Nicole Richie, the slightly less exposed half of the debutante duo slated to star in FOX's much anticipated reality show "The Simple Life." Mingling nearby were Ms. Richie's soon-to-be network counterparts, the four principals on the popular Wednesday night soap "The O.C.": Mischa Barton, Ben McKenzie, Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson.

Others in the young actor set included Amy Jo Johnson ("Felicity"), Benito Martinez ("The Shield"), Arlen Escarapeta ("American Dreams"), Paul Wasilewski ("Everwood"), Henry Simmons ("NYPD Blue") and the sexy quartet of UPN's "Girlfriends." Names from the celluloid world included Dominic Monaghan of "Lord of the Rings," Djimon Hounsou of " Amistad" and "Charlie's Angels" producer Amanda Goldberg.

While some of the Hollywood youth checked out the Nick Kang lookalike models flashing the latest in PUMA apparel, other guests flexed their gaming skills. Actor Jason Ritter's pals tried in vain to pull him away from one of the "True Crime" video game consoles, but the "Joan of Arcadia" costar was mesmerized as he engaged in a high-speed shootout while deftly navigating the streets of virtual LA.
