They held the 5th annual Winter Wonderland Ball in the magnficient Enid A. Haupt Conservatory – the Garden’s landmark crystal palace at The New York Botanical Garden last Friday night. The Conservatory is filled with an internationally acclaimed display of magnificent model trains winding through a sprawling landscape replete with recreations of historic New York City buildings. Sloan Barnett, Katherine Betts, Whitney Fairchild, Julie Frist, Nathalie Kaplan, Rena Sindi, and Aerin Zinterhofer were the evening’s chairmen.

They hosted more than 250 of their friends at what has become the premier holiday party of the season for many young and social New Yorkers. The proceeds raised from the annual event provides operating funds for children’s education programs at the Garden.

The Ball has come to be regarded as one of the “Best Parties of the Year.” There was a champagne reception – Fleurtation – in the spectacular Palm House with the champagne provided by Perrier Jouet. Bill Tansey and his Design Associates transformed an adjacent tent into a shimmering and wintry white and silver setting. The chairmen complemented Mr. Tansey’s décor wearing gowns designed by Badgley Mischka.

It was one o’clock in the morning when the crowd began deserting the dance floor and tables and heading out to their cars to take them back home. That is a very very successful party in New York.

Rosie Perez brought the house down at Tuesday night’s Grand Classics screening at Soho House, sponsored by The Week Magazine and Stoli.

Rosie told the hip crowd in attendance at Soho House’s swank screening room, that she first viewed the film prior to being in the movie business, when she was on her way to becoming a biochemist (before Spike Lee, another Grand Classics host, changed all of that). She praised Peter Sellers’ comic genius, which she looks to for inspiration, and which is something, according to Rosie, that a comic aspires to all of their life.
