Bunky welcomes his ladies

Donated bags for thrift shop
Chicago’s society ringmaster Bunky Cushing developed this fund-raising idea last year. A luncheon at the Casino. The invited women are encouraged to bring a “gently-used” handbag which is donated to the Howard Brown Health Center’s Brown elephant Re-sale Shop. Proceeds benefit the Howard Brown Health Center, along with raffle proceeds (of raffle tickets sold at the luncheon) from eight designer handbags. Howard Brown Health Center is the leading provider of services meeting the challenges of HIV/AIDS in the Midwest.

Mr. Cushing, who according to the Chicago Sun-Times “is a social magnet wherever he appears,” has turned this into an annual event along with his much-celebrated Valentine’s Day Tea at the Ritz-Carlton – a much coveted invitation in Chicago.

This year they sold $4300 in raffle tickets as well as $11,300 raised from ticket sales to 125 guests. Blish Mize Connor won the Louis Vuitton bag. Lisa Malkin won the Ralph Lauren bag. The Burberry went to Nancy Klimley; the Escada to Mamie Walton, the Samantha Kim to Alexa Damon and Laura Barnett-Sawchyn won the Kate Spade.

Martin Katz hosted a holiday party
L. to r.: Kelly Katz and Dana Hammond; Kelly Katz and Anna Gary; Lisa Hagan, Jim Coleman, and Kelly and Martin Katz.
Couture jeweler Martin Katz hosted a holiday party at the Fours Seasons Hotel. The soaring, lofty lobby of one of New York's swankiest hotels provided the perfect backdrop for a combination of magnificent estate jewelry, flawless colored diamonds (large and small) and 80 well-heeled guests making last minute gift lists. Among the guests were newlyweds Evan and Elisa Handler, Bob Kerrigan, Kelly Knight, Jim Coleman, The Meyers, and Lisa Hagan.
