On Tuesday, May 6th, Cartier presented an evening where East met West in celebration of Le Baiser du Dragon, honoring New Yorkers for Children. It was also an opportunity for Cartier to contribute to the community, to entertain their friends, and make it possible to meet new friends. This is an excellent example of the synergy of corporate communal relationships that drive much of social New York today.

Cartier, as the world knows, has the magic of its name and its resplendent history. It is housed in one of the few surviving great mansions of New York a century ago at 52nd and Fifth. The occasional big parties they have thrown in the mansion have been done imaginatively and lavishly. Nobody minds a good party. At this party it was also possible for Cartier to present a new collection to its clientele under the most auspicious circumstances (it was fun).

Robert Isabel
, the Balenciaga of private décor impresarios in New York, designed the party. The Dim Sum was provided by Jean-Georges Vongerichten from his new Chinese restaurant 66. Mr. Vongerichten is one of the most successful chefs/restaurateurs of both popular and haute cuisine in the world.

The Mansion was divided into five rooms, each reflective of the
jewelry themes: dragon, padlocks, wind chimes, wishknots and stones. As guests entered, they were handed a map that took them on a journey through the space. Models dressed in Asian-influenced fashion wore the Le Baiser de Dragon collection.

“Inspired by the mysterious beauty of China, this important new collection features dramatic designs and exotic themes. Fascinating myths, legends and good luck symbols come to life in this exciting array of necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.”

Was it a good time? The crowd was impressed, I’ll say that much. And this crowd has seen it all.
