This
past Tuesday, the London Symphony Orchestra started
its Centenary celebrations with a private recital and dinner at
the homes of Mrs. and Mrs. Ian Graham and
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gruss.

Ellen Graham,
the noted photographer and her husband Ian, will hosted a special
recital in their Park Avenue home, with performances by LSO Principal
Clarinet, Andrew Marriner, son of Sir.
Neville Marriner; LSO Principal Cello, Moray Welsh,
who studied with Jacqueline du Pré and Rostropovich
in Moscow; and LSO Principal Keyboard, John Alley.
The recital was followed by dinner at the apartment of Mr. and Mrs.
Martin Gruss.
The evening's
guest of honor was Sir Colin Davis, Principal Conductor
of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Lady Davis.
Also present: Dr. Sherrell Aston and Mrs. Muffie Potter
Aston, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bernbach, Mrs. Katherine Bryan, Ms.

This event, which coincides with the London Symphony Orchestra's
2004 New York Residency at Lincoln Center (January 18-21), is the
first Centenary celebration in New York in what will be an extremely
exciting year. On April 27th, the American Foundation of the LSO
will hold its annual New York Gala at the elegant Metropolitan Club.
Chaired by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gruss, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen
Schwarzman and Sir Howard Stringer, and
attended by The Lord Mayor of London. |

During
the recital |
The
main focus of the Centenary celebrations will take place
during the London Season with a special three day Benefactor trip
on June 7th, 8th, 9th. The trip will include a "Royal Event"
with a special host on June 8th, as well as the LSO Centenary Gala
and Concert at the Barbican on June 9th. The gala will be truly unforgettable,
a stellar cast assembles to celebrate the LSO's 100th birthday, on
the anniversary of the Orchestra's first ever performance on June
9th, 1904.
The concert will
be feature performances by luminary celebratory artists: Sir Colin
Davis, Midori, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sarah Chang, Michael
Tilson Thomas, Alfred Brendel, Yuri Bashmet, John Williams and
Susan Graham. Her Majesty the Queen, the
LSO's Royal Patron, has been invited to attend.

audiences since its founding in 1904. It has traveled to the United
States on over 30 occasions thrilling American audiences with its
special blend of artistic innovation and technical excellence.
