New York Junior League's “Venetian Masquerade” honored its 2004 outstanding volunteers

The Junior League of the City of New York, Inc. (NYJL) celebrated 103 years of community service by trained women volunteers at its annual winter gala, “Venetian Masquerade." Since 1952, the Winter Ball has honored NYJL volunteers while raising funds for its charitable activities.

This year, seven NYJL volunteers were honored for their exceptional service to the community. The 2004 Honorees were: Melissa Strock Canoni, Christina M. Feicht, Julie Lynn Pfeiffer, Marlise Lynn Randle, Dee Dee Scarborough, Jane R. Crotty, and Barbara Doljack Hayes. Proceeds from the event support the NYJL’s projects for New York City women, children and families in four areas of community need: family life skills, healthy foundations, cultural enrichment of youth and domestic violence.

More than 750 guests attended the black tie gala, which began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, and was followed by a seated dinner and dancing with the Alex Donner Orchestra. Diana Williams, award winning reporter and anchor for ABC 7 Eyewitness News, hosted the evening’s ceremonies.

The “Venetian Masquerade” 2004 Corporate Honoree was Elizabeth F. Stribling, founder and President of Stribling & Associates, Ltd. Additional supporters of the “Venetian Masquerade” included Tiffany & Co. and Lord & Taylor, Bridge East Management, L.L.C, and JP Morgan Chase & Co.

The New York Junior League, a charitable non-profit organization of trained women volunteers, has been a leader in identifying and responding to unmet community needs for over a century. Over 2,800 volunteers collectively donate over 250,000 hours of service to better the lives of women and children in New York City each year. Through direct service, collaborations with other community organizations and advocacy, the NYJL provides a positive force for change within the communities it serves. Miami Beach, FL - On Monday evening, March 1st, Brian Rennie, design director of Escada hosted a private cocktail reception and seated dinner for 25 of Miami's elite on the Veranda of the Delano's Blue Door restaurant.

At the cocktail reception, guests joined Lynn Neldberg, manager of the Bal Harbour Escada store to welcome Mr. Rennie while models highlighted gowns from Escada's new Fall 2004 Couture collection. The evening proved such fun that several ladies insisted that they model Escada's couture gowns during dessert.

Last Thursday at Traction 811 in Downtown Los Angeles, Graffiti artist, celebrity photographer and WireImage co-founder Jeff Vespa mounted an exclusive exhibit of his work. The exhibit combined two artistic mediums, graffiti and photography, to create a unique treatment of pop icons. The show featured photographs of well-known celebrities including Nicole Kidman, Lisa Marie Presley, Nicholas Cage, Madonna and Tom Cruise.

Event hosts were Rosanna Arquette, Rachael Leigh Cook, Bijou Phillips, Shannon Elizabeth and the following celebrities all made a showing: Mena Suvari, David Arquette, Shiva Rose, Samaire Armstrong, Brendan Fehr, Jennifer Gimenez, Danny Masterson, Melissa George, Ana Getty, Tony Kanal (No Doubt), Billy Morrison, Lola Glaudini, Joel Michaelly, Alex Prager, Amanda Demme, Arielle Kebbel, Brandon Davis, Cole Williams, Daniel Gillies, Justin Kahn, Matthew Carey, Robert Kass.

Hosted by Motorola, a portion of the evening’s proceeds was gifted to OPCC, (formerly the Ocean Park Community Center), a network of shelters and services for low-income and homeless youths, adults and families, battered women and their children and homeless mentally ill women. 2003 marked the organizations 40th anniversary of empowering people to rebuild their lives.
