The Museum of Modern Art held its 36th annual Party in the Garden at Roseland Ballroom. The Gala honored comedian Steve Martin and benefited the museum’s Annual Fund and Restoration of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden.

This party gets an enormous turnout and is usually held in the Museum’s Garden which is now undergoing renovation and construction of an addition to the museum. There cocktails at 7 PM with open bar and hors d’oeuvres and dinner at 8 PM catered by Glorious Foods with décor by Robert Isabell and an After Dinner Dance at 10 PM with dancing, music provided by DJ Tom Finn.

Mr. Martin, actor, playwright, author, and art collector, is best known for his performing but is an active supporter of modern and contemporary art. He’s been acquiring works for more than 30 years, focusing primarily on modern and contemporary art from the late 19th Century to the present. His collection includes works by such artists as Roy Lichtenstein, Francis Bacon, Picasso, Hopper and Hockney.

The Young Friends of the Kravis Center held its 11th annual reach for the stars benefit

The Young Friends of the Kravis Center hosted over 500 guests at their 11th annual reach for the stars benefit on May 22. The event raised $60,000 for the Kravis Center’s S*T*A*R (Students and Teachers Art Resource) Series and arts education programs.

The sponsors of Reach for the Stars, Alexander “Sandy” Myers, Board Certified Trial Attorney, and Robert M.W. Shalhoub, P.A., Board Certified Family Law Attorney, greeted guests at the foot of the Grand Stairway in the Kravis Center lobby.

A taste of local talent with musical selections by students from the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Palm Beach Public Elementary String Orchestra and the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Youth Choir topped off the epicurean evening.

Reach for the Stars was successful because of the hard work of volunteers, the event sponsors said. Lauren Carteris and Susan Meier were singled out during the evening as Volunteers of the Year for the Young Friends of the Kravis Center.
