The Empire State Building was illuminated blue and yellow in recognition of the Children's Health Fund's annual gala dinner

The Children's Health Fund (CHF), co-founded by singer/songwriter Paul Simon and pediatrician/child advocate Irwin Redlener, M.D., hosted its annual gala dinner which raised over $1.2 million. CHF is one of the nation's largest providers of medical care to homeless and disadvantaged children.

The gala honored Peter Dolan, Chairman and CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Company is a partner with CHF in the Starting Right initiative, a program designed to target the epidemic increase in obesity and pediatric Type 2 Diabetes.

The event was hosted by Today's Al Roker, and featured a special award ceremony for Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Councilmen Eric Gioia presented them with a proclamation by New York City declaring May 20th "Simon and Garfunkel Day," and CHF patients gave the duo a "Thanks a Million" award in appreciation of their million-dollar donation to CHF. Edie Brickell and her band The Nude's performance received a standing ovation. The Empire State Building lit up the city's skyline blue and yellow (CHF's colors) to commemorate the occasion.

Sirio Maccioni's launch of Sirio: The Story of My Life and Le Cirque
L. to r.: Joan Rivers, Rudy Giuliani, and Sirio Maccioni; Mauro Maccioni with Linda and Jeffrey Chodorow.
Last Tuesday night they closed Le Cirque and fifteen hundred people showed up for the book party for Sirio Maccioni’s new book: Sirio: The Story of My Life and Le Cirque. Sirio, of course, is the proprietor of Le Cirque (and now, several other restaurants here, in Las Vegas and in Mexico City). He’s had one of the longest reigns as Leading New York Restaurateur in the city’s history. That may be partly because he’s always in motion, always changing. In the 1980s, all the Beautiful People, the Last Tycoons, the Social Registerites, the Rich, the Chic and the Shameless, went to Le Cirque in the Mayfair Regent Hotel on 65th and Park. Then he moved down to his present location in the Villard Mansion annex to the Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue and 50th Street. That’s where the 1500 showed up to toast him, along with his longtime loyal staff, his wife and his restaurateur sons.

Sirio Maccioni
The book was written by Peter Elliot and Mr. Maccioni. It is a little like being in the restaurant with all kinds of things going on. Mr. Elliott tells you a little something about the place, about his life, about the clientele. Then there is a chapter where Sirio tells you about himself, about the place, about the clientele. Then there are the recipes of those favorites dishes, some of which are not always on the menu but are well known to the regulars who have been patronizing his establishments for decades.

Those regulars are legion and more than a few were present on Tuesday night for this celebration including Bob and Barbara Taylor Bradford, David and Helen Gurley Brown, Mario Buatta, Dominick Dunne, Jonathan Farkas, Thom Felicia, Steve Forbes, Timothy Forbes, Eileen and Jerry Ford, Katie Ford, Milos Foreman, Nina Griscom, Kathleen Hearst, Rick and Kathy Hilton, Linda and Morton Janklow, Edward Koch, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Fern Mallis, Nobu Matsuhisa, Drew Nieporent, LeRoy Neiman, Carroll Petrie, Joanna and Sidney Poitier, Judith Regan, Casey Ribicoff, John Cahill and Ann Slater, Barry Slotnick, Liz Smith, Kathleen Turner, Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, Somers White and Jonathan Farkas, Alice Mason, Denise Rich, Will Smith, to name just a handful – all there, all basking in the celebrity of Sirio’s clientele and the menu set out to feast on. Did they have fun? What do you think?
