DPC
and I couldn't make it out East this year to The Animal Rescue
Fund
of East Hampton's Summer
Dinner Dance but thanks to Heather
Cohane, we have something
to show you.

Now
I tend to let my
photographs do the talking, but when it to comes to the
Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, I can't help but say a few
words, since I have personally benefited from ARF. I first wrote
about
my
experience
with them when DPC and I went to cover the event three
years ago. We published a pic of this little white dog,
named Oliver (pictured right) on
the site hoping it would generate some interest in potential
adoptive parents,
but alas, there were no takers.
I mentioned to ARF in passing that if no
one
wanted
Oliver, I would "consider" taking him home.
It was not something I gave much thought to because I just
assumed that the posting
on NYSD would find Oliver a new home. The thought of caring
for an animal
and the responsibilties that go along with it
(I have
a little sister
to reference) was not something I was willing to
confront. Sure enough, I got the call the following week
and in keeping with my word, I drove out the following
weekend to pick up
this
little bundle of energy
with
the
"dominant
personality." Three years later, he is the dominant
force in my life and I have ARF to thank for that.

According
to Heather, this year, the dress code was Hollywood
Couture, hence the large dark
glasses
(especially
those of Kathy Rayner's).
Peter Duchin’s orchestra played and Roberta
Sirga impersonated
Joan Rivers. The "Producers" of
Hollywoof included Joanne
Breyer, Jane Maynard, Lisa McCarthy, Georgiana Mellgard,
Patricia Patterson, Katharine Rayner, Alex Chantecaille and Hadley
Smith. While the Academy Members were Amanda
and Lewis Berman (he is the vet
to the stars) Henry Breyer, Susanne and Charles
Bullock, Theresa and Mark Davis,
Elizabeth Fondaras, Elizabeth and Patrick Gershel, Lee Goff
and Bill Holtzman, Emilia Saint-Amand and Fred Krimendahl,
Robin Maynard,
Judy and Edward Ney, Anya and Jaquelin
Robertson, Robert Rufino, and Anne and James
Sitrick.
ARF is one
of the few kennels that is NO-Kill. One dog in particular had been with ARF for six years and soon after the Summer Dance,
he was adopted!! I'm sure Oliver would
be very happy to hear
that since they must have spent a significant amount of time
together
(Oliver was at ARF for three years).
ARF also just opened new (and beautiful) kennels equipped
with air conditioning for the summer and heating for the winter
with
new runs and two vets on call. If you are interested in adopting
a dog or cat they are located
just before the
East
Hampton
Airport, so take look, you won't be sorry. In the meantime, visit
arfhamptons.org.
