Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons kicked off its 30th anniversary Summer Dinner Dance

A Champagne Veuve Clicquot and Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs fête hosted by Debbie Bancroft, Sandra McConnell, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Bettina Zilkha, and Katharina Otto-Bernstein was held on Friday, August 6th at estate jewelers Hollis Reh & Shariff in Southampton to salute the committee of THE ANIMAL RESCUE FUND OF THE HAMPTONS and kick off their 30th Anniversary Summer Dinner Dance “CIAO CIAO BOW WOW” being held on August 21st at Sandra McConnell’s home in Southampton.

The event unveiled The Princess Diana Swan Lake Suite, a necklace and earrings set once owned by the late Princess. The exquisite necklace designed by Garrard, the English crown jewelers, is comprised of 214 diamonds and seven South Sea Pearls. Diana wore it to her last official public appearance, a Royal Gala performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Ballet at London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 3, 1997. The Suite, a gift she received from Dodi Fayed, is the only jewelry owned by the Princess that is ever expected to be available for sale; the asking price is $1.8 million. $100,000 of the proceeds of the necklace’s sale and 10% of all sales stemming from this event will be donated to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons.

Guest that attended included 200 of the Hamptons most fashionable set including designer Jackie Rogers, Steven Stolman, Douglas Hannant, Hilary Geary, Bettina Zilkha, Alex Kramer, Ralph Destino, Eva Dillon, Royce Pinkwater, Ruth Vered, Jane Holzer, Alice and Paul Judelson, High Voltage, ARF’s Sara Davison, Frederick Anderson, Chris Robbins and Elite Celebrities’ Amanda Hearst who modeled the necklace and earrings set and asked that her fee be donated to the Animal Rescue Fund. Many of the guests enjoyed trying on the necklace and even had their instant pictures taken as a keepsake.

The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) provides for the welfare of dogs and cats on the South Fork of Long Island through shelter and adoption services, medical care, spaying and neutering programs, community outreach and humane education. Founded in 1974, ARF has placed over 10,000 cats and dogs in loving homes, and is now the leading non-profit, no-kill animal shelter on the East End of Long Island.

Oscar winner Kevin Kline hosted the Grand Classics film series last week, presenting one of his favorite films, Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, starring George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, and Peter Sellers in three different roles.

Kline told the audience at the Soho House screening that he saw the movie for the first time when he was in high school: “I was on a third date with my then high-school girlfriend. We held hands, therefore it was the sexiest movie I'd ever seen, but that's not why I chose it. I don't think I've ever seen a film as dark, as bleak, and as scathing. It was lambasted by some critics as being too hopeless. I applaud it for that. It has to be hopeless. Most of all what I love about it is Kubrick maintains a tone that is so truthful and so real – it has a kind of documentary feel to it.”

The screening crowd included Julia Stiles (one of Grand Classics’ upcoming hosts), currently steaming up the screen opposite Matt Damon in The Bourne Supremacy; Ivanka Trump who was there with Bingo Gubelmann (whose HBO documentary Born Rich, which Bingo produced with Johnson & Johnson heir Jamie Johnson, just received two Emmy nominations), along with Bettina Zilkha, Patrick McMullan, Lydia Hearst, Daniel Benedict, Couri Hay, Sessa von Richthofen, Jeffrey Slonim, Alvin Valley, actor/writer/director Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent), TV's Spin City's Alexander Chaplin, Amanda Ross, Tracy Taylor, Leslie Stevens, The Week's Carolyn Kremins, Stoli's Ian Crystal and Joanne Kletecka, Janet Cerutti, Jayna Salvatore, and Indyssey Entertainment heads (and hosts) Katrina Pavlos, Vanessa Wingate, and Andrew Saffir.

Just before the lights dimmed and the film began, Kline told the audience to “Laugh, have fun and hope ... that it’s never really going to happen”, a nod to the satirical film’s powerful and timely theme.
