Douglas Hannant's Spring 2005 Collection

Designer Douglas Hannant showed his Spring 2005 collections to a room-full of celebrities and VIP socialites in the tents at Bryant Park on September 14th. Inspired by Millicent Rogers, the Standard Oil heiress who was one of the most innovatively fashionable women of the 20th century, the collection reflects her flair for living, the eclectic and romantic in spirit, and invokes the sandy, turquoise-laden beauty of Taos, New Mexico where she made her home. The color palette is derived from the Southwest landscape, ranging from a bleached mid-day crispness to an elegant rich sunset.

Those on hand included Lorraine Bracco, Sharon Bush, Pamela Fiori, Ellin Saltzman, Nicole Miller, Gillian Hearst, Patricia Duff, NBC’s Jane Hanson, Felicia Taylor, Eva Dillon, interior designer Lisa Jackson, CeCe Cord, Audrey Gruss, Michelle Herbert, Dana Hammond, Marcia Mishaan, Annie Churchill, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Bettina Zilkha, Helen Schifter, Somers Farkas, Patty Raynes, Pamela Gross, Jamee Gregory, Alice Judelson, and Rebecca Weinberg.

After the show, the ladies joined Douglas at a luncheon across the street at The Bryant Park Hotel where they nibbled on shrimp salad and toasted the designer with champagne. The tables were scattered with little turquoise beads, which Bracco collected for her jewelry-making classes.

The designer is a favorite among socialites and celebrities including Charlize Theron, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Garner, and Patricia Clarkson. The line is sold at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.

Pre-Gala reception for F.I.S.T. Fights For New York

Last Tuesday, a week, they held a pre-Gala reception for F.I.S.T. Fights For New York, a not-for-profit organization whose initials stand for Fighters’ Initiative for Support and Training. Their mission is to provide treatment, counseling and career path assistance to boxers who lack the education and resources to make the transition from the ring to a more self-sustaining life. F.I.S.T. was founded in 1998 by Gerry Cooney who, along with other boxing legends such as Jake “Raging Bull” LaMotta, Carlos Ortiz, and famed boxing referee Arthur Mercante, World Class boxing trainer and TV commentator Teddy Atlas and former Congressman Rick Lazio, was present at the event.

This year’s gala, which will take place at the New York Hilton October 14th, the first in New York City, will draw both professional boxers and important members of the business community, together for an evening of fun and excitement. Daniel Craig, Rhys Ifans, Roger Mitchell and Kevin Loader hosted a private screening of “Enduring Love,” starring Craig and Ifans and directed by Mr. Mitchell and produced by Mr. Loader, with screenplay by Joe Penhall, from the novel by Ian McEwan.

Gustavo Arango's Spring 2005 Collection

A Golden Summer Evening Fashion Show & Post-Show Supper was held by designer Gustavo Arango for his Spring 2005 Collection. The front row saw TV’s Rescue Me star, Andrea Roth, Sharon Bush, Tina Louise, Somers Farkas, Dayssi Olarte, CeCe Cord, Debbie Bancroft, Elsa Klench, Maggie Norris, Susan Shin and Georgia Kaufmann.

Afterwards the VIPs headed downtown to the Taj restaurant to enjoy a special dinner celebration in honor of Gustavo. With its Indian inspired interior, dark hanging lamps, plush lounging areas and sophisticated menu of Indian fusion fare, Taj was a perfect compliment to a crowd that included Andrea Roth, the Wire’s JD Williams, CeCe and Elisabeth Keiselstein-Cord, Mesdames Bush, Farkas, Olarte de Kanavos, Debbie Bancroft, Maggie Norris, Alvin Valley, Martin Mark, Colette, Fabian Basabe, Susan Shin, Nick Raynes, Mona Whytt, F. Warington Gillet, Susan Brook and ABC Sports Anchor Marvel Scott.

Arango launched his first Signature 2004 Collection during Fashion Week. The Columbian-born, Puerto Rico-based designer was immediately successful, embraced by Saks Fifth Avenue and a roster of leading designer specialty shops. At the onset of his career, the talented FIT graduate was appointed assistant fashion designer for Pierre Balmain. In 1993, he introduced his bridge sportswear collection sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s. His intricate tailoring skills caught the eye of Bill Blass and in 2000 he began designing an exclusive suit collection for that label. Arango opened his Atelier and flagship boutique in San Juan in 2001. Poised to launch his Signature Collection that same year, the events of September 11 destroyed his New York workshop. Never deterred, the Gustavo Arango 2005 Spring/Summer Collection continues to fulfill his vision.
