Frederick's opened its doors

Last Monday night, midtown's new ultra-exclusive nightspot, Frederick's, opened its doors to the New York social set, providing them with the opportunity to indulge in the current trend of the moment - being fingerprinted – as well as providing them with considerably more glamorous confines than those normally associated with such an ignominious procedure.

Monday was members-only and comfortably crowded, which served to showcase not only the crowd, but the club's understated elegance also. Avoiding the recent trend towards novelty themes that bear little connection to our fair metropolis, owners Laurent and Frederick Lesort have wisely chosen to return to a time of glamour, hiring Etienne Coffinier to create a nightclub reminiscent of highline New York in the 1940’s - more Bogey 'n' Bacall than Paris 'n' Nicky - Gotham City the way it was meant to be.

So who has Frederick given the thumbs up to so far? The list includes Dylan Lauren, Harry LeFrak, Lola and Julian Schnabel, Topper Mortimer, Andrea Tese, Cecilia de Sola, Holly Dunlap, Harvey Weinstein, Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler, Aerin Lauder, Lauren Davis and Cornelia Guest.

As word of Tuesday night's Grand Opening traveled throughout NYC, a stunning little multitude mobilized in the hopes of making it in. Phone calls, emails and faxes worked for some, while others just lingered at the entrance - hoping to see a familiar face with an available “+1. “ When I arrived at 10:30, there were close to 100 people milling around at the rope.

As opposed to Monday night's free reign, Tuesday saw the club divided into two separate areas; the lower foyer and back rooms served as a VIP area, while the upper, main bar area held the overflow. At midnight, the thought of stepping out for a quick smoke seemed appealing ... until I realized that the upper level had now filled to capacity - making the journey far more detrimental to my health than originally planned.

Also deciding to stay put in the VIP: Cristina Greeven Cuomo, Fabian Basabe, Lee Martins, John Norwood, Annie Hildenbiddle, Harry LeFrak, Pepe Fanjul, Mark Baker, Verona Faro, Nicole Helen, Annelise Peterson, Kristina Stewart Julie Luchs, Stacey Lapidus, Jacqueline and Lola Schnabel, Roy Liebenthal, Tinsley Mortimer, Gretchen Gunlocke, Stephanie Ercklentz and Zani Gugelmann.

By Wednesday evening, the last of the revelers had left and the club was back in private party mode, hosting a gala cocktail event with Alberto Repossi and HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, honoring this year’s Princess Grace Award winners and theater legend George C. Wolfe.

And now the journey to Soho House seems so much longer ...
