The
United Hospital Fund honored Mathilde Krim, Ph.D., founding
chairman and chairman of the board of the American Foundation for
AIDS Research (amfAR), and
John D. Wren, president and CEO, Omnicom Group Inc., vice chairman
of Continuum Health Partners, and chairman of Long Island College Hospital for
their extraordinary
contributions to improving health care for all New Yorkers, at a gala dinner
dance that concluded the celebration of the Fund's 125th Anniversary
Year.
The
event marks the opening of the Fund's 126th fundraising campaign on behalf of
New York City's non-profit hospitals and the Fund's work to shape positive change
in health care in New York City.

Mathilde Krim, PhD, a prominent virologist and AIDS research advocate, received
the Fund's Health Care Leadership Award for her extraordinary
personal leadership to improve health care in New York City and for her pivotal
role as founding chairman of amfAR in raising awareness and millions in funds
for AIDS programs and research.
The Health Care Leadership Award was established by the United Hospital Fund
in 1998 to recognize overall personal leadership in improving health care in
New York City. Previous recipients of the award include John J. Mack, former
CEO of Credit Suisse First Boston and Co-CEO of Credit Suisse Group, Sanford
I. Weill, Chairman of Citigroup, Inc., Jack Rudin and the late Lewis
Rudin, Co-chairmen,
Rudin Management Company, and Morton P. Hyman, Principal, MPH Enterprises, LLC.
John D. Wren, President and CEO, Omnicom Group Inc., received the Fund's
Distinguished Community Service Award. for his extraordinary
volunteer leadership in his role as chairman of Long Island College Hospital
to improve health and wellness in the diverse communities of Brooklyn.
The Distinguished Community Service Award was established by the Fund in 1987
to recognize and promote extraordinary contributions by public-minded citizens
to improve health care in New York City. Recent previous recipients include:
Eleanor Hammerman, for leadership in establishing the Initiative for Women with
Disabilities at the Hospital for Joint Diseases; Marie Lam, the founder and chair
of the Chinatown Health Clinic; Brooke Garber Neidich, for her role in creating
the NYU Child Study Center, and Stan Herman, for leading the fashion industry's
extraordinary response to AIDS and breast cancer.
