Gail and Carl Icahn and the Randall’s Island Sports Foundation hosted a kick-off party to the MasterCard All-Star Salute to the World of Soccer, upcoming in May. The kick-off was to celebrate New York’s largest sports field development project to date.

The Randall’s Island development is a dream, long in the making, of Karen Cohen. Mrs. Cohen first got the idea of making the island a great sports facility especially for inner city kids fifteen years ago when she used to go to Randall’s Island to watch her son play soccer. It occurred to her then that this was a treasure waiting to be developed.
Carl Icahn threw his weight and his checkbook behind tdhe project when he wrote out a check for $10 million to build the Carl Icahn sports field and stadium.
Also present at the Icahns’ celebration were Jane Hanson and New York City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, and ISF trustees Tori Dauphinot, Bimla Picot, Dean Landis, Rodney Cohen, Grey and Debra Wasser and Nancy Neff.
The MasterCard All-Star Salute to the World of Soccer will take place on May 8th at Randall’s Island. |
