P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center's 30th Anniversary celebration.
Two weeks ago, Tibi opened their first store at 120 Wooster Street in Soho, New York, and brought out a crowd of the hipper side of the social set. Dabney Mercer, Michelle Barish, Annie Churchill, Olivia Palermo and Gillian Hearst-Shaw hosted the occasion. Gillian showed up 10 minutes early, looking fabulous in her chinoiserie embroidery strapless Tibi dress, posed for a few photos with designer Amy Smilovic, and then did a quick change into jeans to run out early to see the Mets tie up the NLCS to the Cardinals.
Also in attendance were Bianca Pratt, Emma Snowdon-Jones, Lara Meiland, Dee Dee Sides, Nicole Hanley, Elizabeth Meigher, Carrie Cloud, Kristian LaLiberté, Cator Sparks, Melanie Charlton and models Todiana Vasquez and Kenza Fowrah.
Designer Amy was dressed in her Oriental Garden A-line mini dress from the Holiday collection and sipping “Tibi-tini’s” while mingling with family and friends. Dim green lighting accented the bold green, yellow and black colors prominent throughout the store. DJ Coleman provided the music and while the party was scheduled to end at 8:30, by 8:45 there will still about a hundred guests going strong - including a few who made a dance floor of their own near the DJ table.

Last Tuesday night in Long Island City, more than 400 guests turned out for the benefit for P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center celebrating its 30th Anniversary. The Homecoming Gala theme evoked P.S.1’s original use as one of New York City’s oldest public schools. Founder and Director Alanna Heiss started P.S.1 in 1976 when she turned an abandoned schoolhouse into one of the largest and most important spaces for contemporary art. P.S.1 became affiliated with The Museum of Modern Art in 2000.
The P.S.1 30th Anniversary Celebration Committee was co-chaired by P.S.1 Trustee and Vice Chairman Lawton Fitt and the fashion designer Cynthia Rowley. They raised $450,000.
Guests included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Agnes Gund, Glenn Lowry, A. Huda and Samia Farouki, Casey Spooner, Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, Yvonne Force Villareal, Alex Katz, Lee and Jamie Niven, Rachel Feinstein, Cecily Brown, Marina Abramovic, Lewis Cullman, Peter Norton, Thelma Golden, and The Honorable Helen Marshall.
Entertainment started as soon as guests arrived. Homecoming portraits were staged and shot for table buyers by renowned photographers Eric Boman, Todd Eberle, Todd Hido, Jessica Craig-Martin, and Billy Sullivan. Costumes for the portrait guests were created and organized by Cynthia Rowley.
Out in the courtyard of P.S.1, the Francis Lewis High School Marching Band and Cheerleaders performed and led the guests up to the gallery for dinner. Meanwhile, guests sipped the specialty drink of the evening, a blend of fresh fruit juice and 10 Cane Rum, which was served out of a traditional punch bowl.
The neo-burlesque-themed dinner was extraordinary, with Mistress of Ceremonies Ann Magnuson entertaining the crowd. On stage with Ms. Magnuson were Dirty Martini, World Famous Bob, Adam Dugas, Justin Bond, Kenny Scharf, Murray Hill, among others. The surprise performance of the evening was a duet by Ms. Magnuson and Rufus Wainwright.
The evening culminated in the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen: artists Lawrence Weiner and Marina Abramovic.
