Last Thursday night at Cipriani 42nd Street, they held the fourth annual black tie gala benefiting the British Memorial Garden Trust. The Trust is building a park in Lower Manhattan honoring the British victims of 9/11.
They honored Martin Broughton, CEO of British Airways and Richard Fuld, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Lehman Brothers.
The British Memorial Garden is a not-for-profit organization. The garden, which is a gift to the city and the peple of New York, celebrates the unity and friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom. Under the auspices of the British Memorial Garden Trust, it has the Royal patronage of HRH the Prince of Wales.

Last Tuesday night at Cipriani 42nd Street, Lesley Stahl emceed the Rolling with Style Gala, a fashion fundraising event benefiting women’s health and spinal cord research. Nicole Miller, Kimora Lee, St. John, Thom Brown, Zang Toi, Lloyd Klein and Marc Bouwer came together to design a Quickie wheelchair.
Acting as muses, four “chair” women and four “role” models showed these talented designers’ styles. Famous models such as Kim Alexis,“Miss Universe” Zuleyka Rivera, andIrina Pantaeva were among some of the women who walked the runway.

Chairwomen Ashley Fisher, Marilyn Hamilton, Wendy Crawford and Julia Dorsett and Roll Models Rosemarie Rossetti, Jenny Smith, Michelle Boardman and Melissa Holley showed the wheelchair fashions of the designers. Dr. Ruth, Catherine Forbes, Prince Lorenzo Borghese, Carol Alt and Fabian Basabe were amongst the many guests. Deborah Gibson and Shani performed.
Discovery Through Design is a non-profit organization created by four successful and inspirational women in wheelchairs. Proceeds of the event will go the Christopher Reeve Foundation, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and The Spinal Cord Injury Project at Rutgers University. |
