Autumnal décor

Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Cooler weather, and cloudy, but not cold on yesterday’s Halloween in New York. And there were parties all over town, as well as this past weekend. But that’s not all. Far from it ...

Last Thursday night, despite heavy downpours and chilly temps nothing could keep dedicated supporters of Central Park away from the Central Park Conservancy’s Autumn in Central Park at the Naumburg Bandshell. More than 600 guests kept warm by dancing the night away to music by DJ Kiss, surrounded by an awesome décor inspired by the Park’s newly reopened Woodlands.

This year’s chairmen were Betsy Smith and Rick Cotton, Gillian and Sylvester Miniter, Yesim and Dusty Philip, and Kristen and Michael Swenson, and they were joined by Suzie and Ainar Aijala, Douglas Blonsky, President of the Central Park Conservancy, Suzanne and Bob Cochran, Alexandra Lebenthal and Jay Diamond, Fe and Alessandro Fendi, Yaz and Valentin Hernandez, Tracey and Craig Huff, Sharon Jacob, Henry Johnson, Jill and Barry Lafer, Elyse and Michael Newhouse, Lorry and Mark Newhouse, Jenny and Michael Price, and Patsy and Jeff Tarr. Northern Trust served as the sponsor of the gala for the third year in a row, also donating Discovery Kits to the Park in honor of each guest that attended the event.

Members of the Young Associates Committee joined for dessert and dancing, followed by an after-party at Lavo. The Young Associates Event Chairs for this year were Bz Reed and Charles Altchek, Sara and Michael Bernard, Sam Dangremond, Meggie Kempner and Lucinda and Theodore May.
The dinner’s harvest menu was prepared by Abigail Kirsch.
Event designer DeJuan Stroud transformed the tent at the Naumburg Bandshell inspired by the Woodlands. The Central Park Conservancy worked on a multi-year project to restore the Park’s Woodlands as part of its ten-year Forever Green campaign which is intended to preserve the historic Frederick Law Olmsted / Calvert Vaux vision of the extraordinary landscape of Central Park.

The mission of the Central Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization founded in 1980, is to restore, manage, and enhance Central Park in partnership with the public, for the enjoyment of all New Yorkers and its millions of visitors. The Central Park Conservancy raises 75% of the annual budget essential to keeping thel Park beautiful.

Then on Friday beginning the “holiday” weekend, Doubles, the private club in the Sherry-Netherland, hosted their “Ghosties, Spooktacular Halloween” in the afternoon for the wee ones (and some of the bigger not-so-wee ones). Menu for the wee connoisseurs included Grilled Cheese Squares and Chocolate Brownies. Skeletons, skulls and spiders covered the ceilings and walls. There was disco dancing, Daisy Doodle Face Painting, Balloon Making, and the oh so popular Magic Al. On departure, the club directrice Wendy Carduner gifted her wee guests with Pumpkin Pails filled to the brim with candy. Among the guests were the children of Tatiana Perkin, Eleanora Kennedy (grandchild), Katy Gage Boulud, Ashley McDermott, Drew Barrymore, Lisa Simonson and many, many more.
On Saturday evening the 'grown-ups' enjoyed their own Doubles SPOOKTACULAR Halloween Party. I don’t know about Cheese Squares and Chocolate Brownies but Wendy Carduner supplies a menu that doesn’t disappoint the “older” folks who kept the dance floor filled until 1 a.m.

Among the ghosts, goblins and other types were Jill and Harry Kargman, Kristin and Diego Urrutia, Susan and Ted Gamble, Mr. and Mrs. Barcellos, Christopher Johnson family and friends; Alison Minton, Tristina and Grier Eliasek, John Royall, Coco Blaffer, Georgia Mouzakis, The Polk Family, Arni and Paola Rosenshein, Karolina and Robert Albertson, Lisa and Tom Wilkinson and many, many more.

Meanwhile, way out west in Hollywood at the Sunset Gower Studios this past Sunday, GOOD+ Foundation Founder Jessica Seinfeld hosted the organization’s inaugural Halloween Bash raising $230,000 to benefit the Foundation’s work to help lift families out of poverty in the Los Angeles area.

An extension of GOOD+ Foundation’s New York City “Bedtime Bash,” the L.A. Halloween Bash was a spooktacular family festival for mummies, daddies and kiddies.

Nearly 600 guests, including families the Foundation serves from LIFT Los Angeles, Youth Policy Institute and Children’s Institute, Inc.’s Project Fatherhood, spent the afternoon enraptured in an array of activities for the whole family, which was highlighted by a special Stokke® Spooky Storytelling featuring ABC’s “Blackish” stars Marcus Scribner, Marsai Martin and Miles Brown.

GOOD+ Foundation works with approximately 50 sites in the greater Los Angeles area working within its three program focus areas:  Supporting New Mothers, Investing in Early Childhood and Engaging Fathers.  The organization integrates donations of child’s products with the transformational services of its partner sites to help give incentive parents to meet goals like getting a GED, taking parenting or anger management courses, or finding employment, to help break the generational cycle of poverty. A quarter of all children in Los Angeles live in poverty, as reported by the US Census Bureau.

Guests at the party included Kimberly and James Van Der Beek, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sterling K. Brown, Dan Bucatinsky and Don Ross, Ian Ziering, Bill Horn and Scout Masterson, Sean Patrick Thomas and Aonika Laurent, Tiffani Thiessen and Brady Smith, Majandra and David Walton and Mary Kitchen and Jon Orszag.

Co-hosts included Bruce Bozzi and Bryan Lourd, Stacey Bendet Eisner, Crystal Lourd, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jamie Tisch.

Host Committee members included Shiri Appleby and Jon Shook, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, Helen Cavallo, Julia and James Corden, Majandra Deflino and David Walton, Marika Dominczyk and Scott Foley, Erin Fetherston and Gabe Saporta, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., Patricia and Alex Gorsky, Bill Horn and Scoutt Masterson, Mary Kitchen and Jon Orszag, Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur, Jayma Mays and Adam Campbell, Bijou Phillips, Tiffani Thiessen and Brady Smith, Aonika Laurent Thomas and Sean Patrick Thomas, Ilaria Urbinati and Eric Ray Davidson, and Kimberly and James Van Der Beek.
