Season's Greetings to the New Year

New Years Day, January 1, 2018. It was very cold over the weekend with temperatures falling into the teens. Those grey-white winter skies. We had a bit of snow but none to last except to leave the roads a grey-white from the frozen moisture left behind.

So here we are at the New Beginning. We may wonder what it will bring. As much as people like to predict, “surprises” are the only thing we can ever be sure of. The currently outgoing year brought us enough of the bad, on the planet, in our world, and in ourselves. I ask the Universe for some good surprises this time around.

Today we’re running the holiday cards that came to us this past season. Us being to DPC and to JH. This has become an NYSD tradition and we look forward to it as much as some of our loyal readers. We’ve been doing this for the past 17 years and it has been interesting seeing the evolution of everyone’s life. That once baby in swaddling is five-six or six-two, brunette, blond, black or red, you wouldn’t recognize him or her. There are a few of those in this year’s batch. Having observed the changes, it’s kind of exciting to see what’s possible. The cards have changed somewhat this year. We received many more non-photo cards than before. I wonder if it’s a natural antidote to the selfie consciousness.

We leave out the names for the sake of personal privacy although they are many among us who will know almost all of them. The fascinating thing about the NYSD is we’ve never run a photo of someone that isn’t recognized – and often acknowledged – by someone that individual knows personally. The small world we live in. Enjoy the trip through the images.
