Yesterday was a busy one in the city
Outside of La Goulue. 1:00 PM.
Yesterday was another beautiful sunny day in New York. Henri Barguirdjian, the President of Graff Jewelers hosted a luncheon yesterday at La Goulue in honor of Jamee Gregory and Leslie Jones and The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's 15th Anniversary Preview Party Committee of The International Fine Art and Antique Dealers Show on October 16th at the 7th Regiment Armory at 67th Street and Park Avenue.

Jones and Gregory are co-chairing this year’s Preview Party, the 15th annual for the SMSKCC, and they brought out about supporters to the popular bistro on Madison Avenue. Ivana Trump was there, fresh back from St. Tropez where she put the finishing touches on her new villa so that now she can spend her summers on her yacht (which she keeps in Monte Carlo) and at her villa.

The models from Graff were there, drenched in diamonds, enticing the enticeable. Susan Burke was there wearing a rainbow-colored floral brooch which did not come from Graff but was something she’d had her eye on for sometime (at Bergdorf’s). Four weeks ago she was robbed of all her jewelry at London Heathrow, and that clinched it for her: a few days ago went over to Bergdorf’s and treated herself.

In the crowd: Tom Guinzburg, Daisy Soros, Joanne de Guardiola, Jackie Weld, Allison Stern, Nicole Limbocker, Barbie Bancroft, Karen LeFrak, Grace Meigher, Jessie Araskog, Giney Burke, Bettina Zilkha, Tara Milne, Susan Bodner, Felicia Taylor, Maria Bockman, Shoshanna Lowenstein Gruss, Muffie Potter Aston, Anne Eisenhower, Jamie Niven, Pamela Fiori, Helen Schifter, Courtney Arnot, Debbie Bancroft, Jan Calloway, Mary Carpenter, Hilary Dick, Andi Davis, Webb Egerton-Warburton, Hilary Geary, Sallie Giordano, Karen May, Ashley McDermott, Leslie Perkin, Alex Rose, Alexia Hamm Ryan, Lavinia Snyder, and Jeanne Sorensen-Leff.

I was seated between Leslie Jones and Coco Kopelman who became a grandmother for the first time, to Sadie Kargman, on July 29th. Out came the pictures, of Sadie’s first day in New York – just twenty minutes after she entered the world – in the arms of her grampa, Chanel’s Arie Kopelman, and then with her gram and her ma, Jill Kopelman Kargman wheeling the child from the hospital.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is the oldest and largest private institution dedicated to the prevention, detection, control and cure of cancer. Coco is the new president of the Society for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The new president serves a two-year term and comes to the position only after serving on the Center’s board.

This philanthropy, one of the most prestigious in New York, is very successful, if not the most successful of hospital philanthropies, raising between $8 and $9 million annually for the hospital, as well as for research and hospital related projects (including the flowers, the art classes). Board members are expected to engage actively in the fund raising as well as volunteer work. By the time one gets to the presidency of the organization they are well-versed in all aspects of the Society and Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

On my way out of the restaurant I stopped to say hello with Terry Allen Kramer and Nick Simunek, also recently back from St. Tropez, who were lunching with Averell Fisk, and to Darcie Leeds, lunching with a friend. Madison Avenue was bustling on this bright sunny day and no doubt many were getting ready for the bustling night ahead.
