Every
year about this time Somers Farkas and Jessie Araskog give
a Dejeuner de l’Automne at Restaurant Daniel
on Park Avenue and 65th Street. Scores of the fashionable ones
move through the revolving doors starting about noon. Cocktails
(mainly water) are served while the guests find their table
numbers, and then at one, luncheon is served. Need it be said
that the bill of fare at Restaurant Daniel is Four Star (or
is it Five Star)?

Mrs. Farkas
and Mrs. Araskog stood on the landing before the main room and
greeted everyone. I went around with the Digital and took pictures
of almost every woman in the room. I missed some only because the
results were blurry or someone was talking distorting the countenance
in a way that a picture is not kind.
Afterwards I sat down between Deborah Norville and Maria
Bockmann and helped myself to the plate before me: Striped
Bass with Baby Fall Root Vegetables in a Lemongrass, Mint and Coriander
Broth. I remember when I was a kid and hated to eat fish. Daniel
Boulud transformed that notion forever: it was delicious. After which
came the dessert: Dark chocolate-Caramel Mousse Bombe with Passion
Fruit Cream Center and Sauce.
Deborah Norville excused herself just before it was served because
she had to get back to the studio and on camera. So I ate my dessert
and then when nobody (or everybody; it didn’t matter to me)
was looking, I helped myself to Ms. Norville’s Mousse Bombe’s
away. Which was a bit much.
Wines served were Josmeyer, Pinot Blanc 2001 and Babich Merlot
2001.

Meanwhile
down a block and just around the corner over at 17
East 74th Street at the Ingrao Gallery, Tony Ingrao and Randy
Kemper were hosting a ladies’ luncheon in honor
of Pauline Pitt who is the Chairman of the Dinner
Dance of The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach, coming up in
the not-so-distant future.
And on that list were some of the girls you’re likely to see
on the tennis courts and boulevards and at the balls in PB when it’s
the season, including: Annette Tapert Allen, Barbie Bancroft,
Ann Barish, Cynthia Boardman, Samantha Boardman, Pat Buckley, Virginia
Coleman, Jackie Weld Drake, Mica Ertegun, Emilia Fanjul, Dr. Kira
Flanzreich, Hilary Geary, Mrs. David H. Gilmour, Lorna Graev, Jamee
Gregory, Audrey Gruss, Joanne de Guardiola, Kate Gubelmann, Nan Kempner,
Julia Koch, Evelyn Lauder, Carol Mack, Alyne Massey, Patricia Patterson,
Carroll Petrie, Marjorie Gubelmann Raein, Jill Roosevelt, Dolores
Smithies, Blaine Trump, Wendy Vanderbilt, and Harriet
Weintraub.
I can’t tell you about that menu but I do know there is always
salivating going on in the Ingrao Gallery over their almost priceless
treasures – antiques and objets; I mean extraordinary. |
