Two cocktail parties in New York last night. San Francisco convert Jeanne Lawrence hosted a cocktail party at her Park Avenue duplex for the First Lady of San Francisco Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom. Mrs. Newsom lives in New York four days a week where she is a noted legal analyst and commentator on CNN, MSNBC, Court-TV and ABC News. Her handsome husband Gavin Newsom is the 42nd Mayor of San Francisco.

Mrs. Newsom, daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish father, is a San Francisco native. She served as Assistant DA and completed a lengthy trial in the case People V. Noel and Knoller, the couple that was tried in the famous dog-mauling case that was covered in the international press. Before that she was Deputy DA in Los Angeles where she amassed an impressive record in adult and juvenile cases including narcotics, domestic violence, kidnapping, robbery, arson, sexual assault and homicide cases.

If that isn’t enough she’s very active in community programs from fund-raising for the local zoo, the Humane Society, the Northern California Cancer Center, pediatrics programs and schools. Busy busy. Her husband was sworn into office of mayor last January. They see each other on long weekends; thank-god-it’s-Friday, no?

Penthouse Serenade. We went from the Lawrence-Newsom party a few blocks down to Terry Allen Kramer and Nick Simunek’s post-birthday party for Palm Beach’s hottest landscape designer Mario Nievera who turned forty last Sunday. The Kramer-Simunek duplex penthouse is one of the more fabulous abodes on the Upper East Side with sweeping terraces on both the north and south ends of the apartment.

Scheduled from 6:30 to 8, by 8:30 it was a mob scene on both terraces, with a small army of waitstaff serving a vast menu of sushi, hors d’oeuvres, pastas and desserts. Kramer and Simunek who spend their time between here, Southampton, Palm Beach and St. Tropez are famously hospitable. There was a major contingent of the New York-Palm Beach people including Liza Pulitzer, Mark Gilbertson, Frannie Scaife and Tom McCarter, Ann Downey, Mona Sayve, Robert Janjigian, Steven Stolman, Jean Tailer, John Loring, Beth DeWoody, Chris and Grace Meigher, Mick Jones, Joyce and Bob Sterling, Cynthia Boardman, Sharyn and Steve Mann (who’ve developed property in Vero), Jim Brodsky, Ellen and Ian Graham; Terry’s son and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel and Alex Kramer, Joanne Creveling, Dennis Basso, Regine Traulsen, to name only a few luxuriating out under the New York night skies.

Another beautiful night in New York. Thank our lucky stars.
