Andrew
Saffir and Daniel Benedict. Two of the most popular out-and-about men in New York, the
team of Andrew
Saffir and Daniel Benedict (or Daniel Benedict and Andrew Saffir)
devote a lot of their spare time to a number of New York based
charity organizations such as New Yorkers for Children, ASPCA,
Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York City Ballet, Make-A-Wish,
Central Park Conservancy and God’s Love We Deliver. In
the summer they are ubiquitous in the Hamptons, seen at many
events and parties, both philanthropic and social.
Andrew Saffir and Daniel Benedict are both ideal extra men on
the New York/Hamptons (and occasionally Palm Beach) social scene.
They
are also an idea extra couple (who’ve been together for eight
years now) and are, in fact, often invited as a couple (of ideal
extra men) for they always participate and make an effort.
Saffir grew up here in New York, where he attended Hunter High
School and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a year spent
abroad in London and France. When I first met him several years
ago, he was a marketing executive with Polo Ralph Lauren. Today
he runs the Cinema Society here in New York. Cinema Society screenings,
frequently reported on in the NYSD Party Picture pages, are a popular
private event among the social set.
Benedict hails from Massachusetts where he attended Northeastern
University in Boston before coming to the Big Town to make his
way as a designer. He is co-author with Jodi Della Femina of the
very popular (and controversial with the Hamptons locals) Jodi’s
Shortcuts which provides an insider’s knowledge and know-how
to getting around the now densely traveled communities of the South
Fork of Long Island. It could be called “Life Goes On Away
From Route 27” (now often the longest parking lot in the
world in summertime). Last year, with partner Marjorie
Gubelmann Raein he created Vie Luxe International, a scented candle and body
fragrance business with products sold in better stores across the
country.
The two are very savvy navigators of the upper strata of the New
York social scene. They could write a book on how it is done successfully.
They are one of the few examples of two people who move comfortably
in all environments both singly or as a couple. More than a small
part of that can be attributed to the fact that they are always
presentable: Well-dressed, courteous, thoughtful, and in summation:
real gents. They often travel in the company of one or sometimes
two of the most popular women in town who are also real friends.
