A Celebration of Timeless Music As this all new residency blossoms for Spring, 1978 celebrates the genesis & evolution of dance and DJ culture! This is a sonic adventure into music for those with an open mind and an urge to dance… from disco, rare grooves, funk, hip-hop, soul, house music & beyond! On May 18th we go deeper as 1978 Founder & Resident Selectress Iriela, New York based international DJ and producer bangs the party alongside special guest, Brooklyn bred multi instrumentalist, vocalist, song writer and producer Jovonn! Join us as we welcome this legendary force in house music since the 1990’s. Jovonn is an architect of house music, turning out gem after flavorful gem under labels Body n Deep, Next Moov Recordings and more. May 18th we unveil our first pop up shop featuring Indigo Style Vintage – a black woman owned, thoughtfully curated vintage boutique serving up vintage clothing and accessories! So, #DresstoExpress and RSVP today because the Guest List has just opened! And if that’s not enough, enjoy our 1978 Signature Cocktail “I Feel Love” happy hour, all night long! We are thrilled to announce that 1978 is an official 18th Annual Dance Parade Afterparty to honor dance as an expressive and unifying art form for this yearly New York City dance event! 1978 is a proud partner fostering cultural equity, educational empowerment, emotional/physical health, freedom and peace. 10,000 dancers take over Avenue of the Americas from 12noon-7pm and at 9pm, the vibes continue on the 1978 dancefloor, at Ace Hotel New York (29th and Broadway)! 1978 Events was born out of Selectress Iriela’s record collection orbiting this magical year, sure enough on the back of her “Special Selections,” in small print would be the year: 1978 – no matter the genre. This epicenter of timeless sound reverberates to present day music releases via soulful samples and sonic qualities ever persistent in this soulful vibration. This inspired the series to launch in 2014 in Brooklyn with guests ranging from Sal P of Liquid Liquid to Natasha Diggs and legend BreakBeat Lou. Welcome to 1978 – that sweet spot where timeless music and club culture intersect on the dancefloor! Music is a feeling – not limited to one genre, era or style and above all catalyzes the human need to come together in dance and creative expression. Second World is not just a production company and sister nonprofit evolved from empowerment work globally, but a conscious tech platform encompassing events, festivals, art, dance, film, fashion, music production and more. #SecondWorldMovementEvent Calendar
