The Manhattan Adult ADD Support Group is pleased to present a lecture by Thomas Brown, PHD: ADHD & Asperger’s Syndrome When adults underperform at work, or in social interactions, it’s often assumed that they’re bored, lazy, or uncaring. Peers and employers of those who are often bright but floundering may not recognize two challenges that often co-occur: ADHD and Asperger syndrome. In this talk, clinical psychologist Thomas Brown will describe his work with high-IQ students and adults who did very well in their earlier school years, but who had increasing difficulty academically and socially as they navigated middle school, high school, college, and/or employment. Despite their intelligence, some of these individuals struggled in managing their schoolwork; or jobs. Some struggled, too, in understanding and managing emotions and their interactions with other people. They had both unrecognized ADHD and unrecognized Asperger syndrome. Dr. Brown has a forthcoming book on ADHD and Asperger’s, of which this talk is a preview.
