Adult ADHD: Diagnosis & Misdiagnosis.

Adult ADHD: Diagnosis & Misdiagnosis.
A common complaint: that adult ADHD is prone to misdiagnosis.
That’s because its symptoms are subjective, share features with a broad range of other disorders, and differ from adult to adult. And because — on this point — the main reference source (DSM-5) doesn’t tell you much.
What can be done to rule out false positives or false negatives? Detect malingering? And improve overall diagnostic accuracy?
On June 24, hear clinical and research psychologist Margaret H. Sibley) discuss these issues with an audience of ADHD adults.
Dr. Sibley is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She also works at the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development at Seattle Children’s Hospital. At both, she studies attention, executive functioning, and motivation in adolescents and young adults.
Dr. Sibley also provides training along these lines to schools, hospitals and community groups. She is the author of Parent-Teen Therapy for Executive Function Deficits and ADHD: Building Skills and Motivation (Guilford, 2016). Dr. Sibley is a psychologist, researcher, professor, and author who specializes in ADHD and strengthening attention, motivation, and executive functions in adolescents.
