From shaping MTV, VH1, and E! Entertainment to leading NPR and exploring the world of venture capital—Mohn’s journey is filled with unique stories and invaluable lessons. Described by The LA Times as “a visionary model of institutional partnership,” Jarl Mohn and his wife, Pamela, made headlines with their groundbreaking donation of 260 contemporary artworks to the Hammer Museum, LACMA, and MOCA. This unprecedented collaboration, known as the Mohn Art Collective (MAC3), is reshaping how museums work together to manage and expand collections. The historic gift also includes an endowment for future acquisitions, ensuring ongoing support for Los Angeles artists and beyond. Alongside his philanthropic endeavors, Mohn’s remarkable media career will be a key focus of this conversation. From driving innovation at MTV to expanding NPR’s influence, Mohn’s impact on both the media and art worlds is profound. Mohn and Lin will explore the intersections of art collecting, media leadership, and cultural impact, offering attendees a glimpse into the vision that has driven his career and philanthropy. Jarl Mohn Currently, Jarl is President Emeritus of NPR having served as President and CEO from July 2014 to October of 2019. Jarl’s media experience has spanned all media platforms as well as rapid changes in audience trends. He spent almost 20 years in radio, many as a disc jockey at stations including WNBC in New York. In addition to on-air work in radio, he served as a programmer, general manager, and owner of a group of radio stations. He created E! Entertainment Television, and served as its president and CEO for almost a decade. He is the former executive vice president and general manager of MTV and VH1 where he architected the strategy of long-form programming at the heart of the network today and diversified the networks’ audiences by developing innovative programming around alternative music formats. He was also founding president and CEO of Liberty Digital, a public company that invested in cable networks, the Internet and online businesses. Prior to joining NPR in July of 2014, Mohn served the board of trustees of Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) for more than a decade, including two years as chairman. He also spent over 12 years on the board of The Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, including six years as its chair. He has also been a corporate director and advisor to a number of media companies, making direct early stage angel and seed investments in digital media/technology ventures. Mohn served on the board of the EW Scripps Company and Scripps Networks for over 16 years until the recent sale to Discovery Networks. He also served as a director on the boards of XM Satellite Radio, Riot Games and chairman of CNET. Jarl also manages The Mohn Family Foundation, a philanthropic entity that he and his wife, Pamela, created in 2000. He attended Temple University, where he studied Mathematics and Philosophy. Fanyu Lin Fanyu Lin is an artist and entrepreneur working at the intersection of fine art, technology, architecture, and design. As a Contributing Writer for the Chinese edition of the Financial Times, she interviews influential business and cultural leaders, producing articles and audio pieces on global leadership, art, business, and ESG. An active voice in global dialogues, Lin serves on the Bloomberg New Economy Cities Council, collaborating on a methodical, citizen-centric approach to urbanization, and on the World Economic Forum’s Council on the Connected World, shaping governance and innovation of the Internet of Things and related technologies in the global public interest. She also serves as the Chair of the Art & International Committee for the Columbia Business School Alumni Club of New York. Lin graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Columbia University.
