Architecture & Design Festival (ADFF:NY)

September 25 - September 28

The 16th season of the Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF) features a rich selection of world and U.S. premieres that explore the inspiring, global influence of architecture, design, and art. ADFF’s carefully curated program brings together works chosen for their cinematic and narrative excellence, touching on topics such as sustainability, artistic innovation and legacy, community impact, and the power of the built environment.

In New York, the festival makes its return to the iconic Village East by Angelika theater, running from September 25-28, 2024. The opening night spotlights the world premiere of Stardust: The Story of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, with director Jim Venturi and critic Martin Filler (The New York Review of Books) delving deeper into the film during a post-screening discussion.

The U.S. premiere of Ada – My Mother the Architect will be followed by a Q&A with architect Ada Karmi-Melamede and director Yael Melamede. World premieres include Sitting Still, a documentary about Laurie Olin, who will participate in a Q&A after the screening, and Schindler’s Space Architect, with the director in attendance for a post-film discussion. This Is Not A House, directed by Morgan Neville, will also make its world premiere, followed by a Q&A with architect Robin Donaldson and clients Lynda Weinman and Bruce Heavin. Additionally, the world premiere of The House: 6 Points of Departure will explore a unique residence designed by Thom Mayne in the 1980s.

The Swiss director of E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea, Beatrice Minger, will be present for the film’s U.S. premiere. The festival also showcases the U.S. premiere of two Italian films: The Pavilion on the Water, a film about Carlo Scarpa with the directors attending from Bologna for a Q&A, and Green over Gray: Emilio Ambasz, with director Francesca Molteni attending from Milan. Steven Holl, a close friend of Emilio Ambasz, will join Molteni for the discussion.
