Datuna Art Space Grand Opening
June 20, 2019 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
FREEDatuna Art Space will hold its grand opening between 6pm and 10pm on Thursday, June 20th. Founded and directed by acclaimed artist David Datuna and housed in a repurposed taxi cab garage, it will be one of the largest privately-owned art center in Long Island City.
Datuna created the space to be a hub to push the boundaries of conceptual art. By providing a home for these noncommercial endeavors, he hopes to promote understanding of diverse global perspectives. In our current social and political landscape, the aim is to showcase the common denominator, our shared humanity, through art. The center is scheduled to present up to six shows a year.
Datuna Art Space was built to be part of the cultural fabric of Long Island City, welcoming walk-ins and presenting a program of community-focused events throughout the year.
The opening exhibition will include both new and historic pieces from Datuna, including the interactive installation ‘Cloning Eternity’ recently installed in Washington Square Park, a piece from his Smithsonian-recognized ‘Portrait of America’ flag series, as well as a couple of his signature portraits.
