Recharge Foundation is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition, HUMANMAKES: The Imperial Artisans of Modern China, presenting contemporary work by four artisan practitioners of ancient techniques in Chinese fine arts, design, and jewelry. The exhibition showcases works by Shenglin Wang, Chu Yan, Lu Meiying, and the Beijing Oriental Crafts Treasure Filigree Inlaying Plant. Established by Chinese collector Lorin Gu, Recharge Foundation is dedicated to furthering the preservation and global understanding of fine arts and craft techniques by reintroducing them into the contemporary world. This inaugural exhibition marks the launch of HUMANMAKES, an affiliated commercial initiative that supports emerging creators, artists, and innovators who bring new perspectives to waning craftsmanship. Through an exhibition program, grants, and commissions, HUMANMAKES will serve as a platform that encourages the perseverance of cross-cultural craft techniques. Partnering with New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the Recharge Foundation will host an artisan dialogue on May 3 from 3–5pm, featuring conversations with artisans in the exhibition. The exhibition is open from May 2-May 16, 2019. Open to the public starting May 4. Hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 11 am–6 pm. Located at 555 West 25th Street, New York City.
