Museum of Arts and Design Digital Drop-In

The Museum of Arts and Design is conducting a fun and informal workshop, on Saturday, February 13, at 10 am, led by artist and MAD artist educator Jocelyn Hsin-Ju Yang, who will demonstrate how to make paper cutouts for Lunar New Year.

MAD’s Digital Drop-ins are for participants of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Following the demonstration, participants will have time to independently work on their project and share with “neighbors” in the virtual class.

All Digital Drop-ins are 45 minutes. Registrants will receive an email 24 hours in advance of the program with instructions for accessing the workshop on Zoom.

This event costs $10 for non-members and is free to current members.

Origami paper (works the best for its thickness and shape. If not available, construction paper or tissue paper could also work).

Paper cutouts for Lunar New Year are traditionally in red, but it’s your choice. It’s not uncommon to see other colors for paper cutout decorations during Lunar New Year today, especially among the younger generation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jocelyn Hsin-Ju Yang is a Brooklyn-based educator and ceramist. She is an advocate for equity and justice and is dedicated to making art accessible to all. She encourages individual and collective learning to broaden the understanding of oneself and the world in her teaching practice. She received her MA in museum education and art history from the City College of New York, CUNY. She now works as a museum educator at the Museum of Arts and Design, the Rubin Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum.
