Print Center New York presents its inaugural exhibition, Visual Record: The Materiality of Sound in Print running from Saturday, October 8, 2022 – Saturday, January 21, 2023 at its new state-of-the-art facility at 535 West 24th St. Visual Record, organized by guest curator Elleree Erdos, who was appointed last year as Director of Prints & Editions at David Zwirner has curated an exhibit rooted in the traditions of both sound and print. The works in Visual Record reflect an increasing interest in how prints relate to and inform broader multimedia practices, highlighting artists whose work translates between sound and print using distinctly physical means. Across a wide range of subjects—from the rhythms of jazz and American nostalgia to the sound of silence and the encoding of race in aural matter—the works demonstrate how the idea of the “record” is bolstered by innovative technical and conceptual approaches to printmaking. Print Center New York (formerly International Print Center New York or IPCNY) will be launching its brand-new, ground-level space in a historic 6-story building completed in 1903 as a horse stable, doubling the scale of Print Center New York’s previous space. Designed by architect Markus Dochantschi of studioMDA, the new location will have expansive windows that will welcome visitors from a well-traveled street in the heart of New York’s Chelsea art district into a grand entrance with seating and publications for browsing. The main interior space, the Jordan Schnitzer Gallery, will allow Print Center New York the flexibility to use the space in a multitude of ways, including exhibitions, artist programs, performances, and receptions.Event Calendar
