Come see the film that is taking international film festivals by storm at DCTV in the Firehouse in NYC on Monday, September 23, just in time for NYC for Climate Week and the UN Summit for the Future. Filmmakers Jim Merkel, Deborah Shaffer, and Pedro Martin Navarro will be in attendance for a Q&A following the film. Deborah Shaffer was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement at DOCNYC in 2023. Deborah and Pedro both contributed significantly to the film, especially on the ground filming in Cuba. Learn about Jim’s studies in countries where sustainability and women’s empowerment are joining together to bring positive, progressive change. While many countries might be deemed poor by capitalist standards, these same countries might wonder at the unhappy realm of comparative materialism and chronic debt associated with capitalist countries. Saving Walden’s World gives us a chance to see a worldview that is largely absent from media or education and is in fact, quite the opposite of many government programs. (Jim’s early career found himself trying to stop progressive programs that would help the poor in these very countries—an ironic thread woven through this documentary.) Afterparty at DCTV follows Q&A. Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/savingwaldensworld-firehousedctvEvent Calendar
