To commemorate Indigenous Peoples Day, Tecumseh Ceaser – cultural knowledge holder, artist, and creator of Native Tec – will host two hands-on workshops exploring the relationship that Matinecock people have with the sea and the life supported by the sea. Participants will be guided through the process of creating shell necklaces with shells, sinews, and trade beads. The shells used in this workshop are scallop shells, which are a traditional food. We will discuss details about the Wampum tradition of using shells to record history. All supplies will be provided, and no prior expertise is assumed. Each participant will leave with a piece of shell jewelry to treasure and share. Suggested donation $20 – all proceeds will be divided between Shinnecock Kelp Farmers and Intertribal Cultural Coalition.Event Calendar
