With a haunting tone and a range large enough to play bass lines as well as chords and treble melodies, it is a wonder the viola da gamba ever went away. At the turn of the 18th century the instrument was the favorite of French royalty, and its repertoire was perhaps the most sophisticated music of the age. Two gambas take center stage, and the splendor of the court shines through in this program of French delights featuring Matt Zucker and Adam Young on works by Marais as well as Couperin’s “L’Imperiale” and his unpublished, and rarely performed “La Sultane”.Event Calendar
