Nantucket is bracing for a murder when a body washes ashore in just a few weeks on Netflix. I’m referring to The Perfect Couple, the series starring Nicole Kidman based on Nantucketer Elin Hilderbrand’s novel about a local family and the dark plot that encircles their Instagram pristine lives.
But ACK is always ready for its Hollywood close-up. Especially on the languid August days I spent there at the Summer House in Sconset, where the couples are perfect, the hydrangeas are perfect, and the breeze coming off the Atlantic is perfect. The only thing sinister you might see are children eating ice cream for breakfast at the Sconset Market.
In the days leading up to back-to-school time, I spotted a gaggle of youngsters from Bryn Mawr selling lemonade outside the family home. Ever the aspiring entrepreneurs, they had a Venmo link at the ready.
The shuttle bus into town from Sconset is now free, so we ventured into the heart of ACK where we took a sunset cruise with our friends at Nantucket by Water to get a visual seascape of the boats in Nantucket Harbor backlit by a riot of orange and golden hour hues.
We ended each day sitting in our beach chairs by the sea staring up at the stars with only a flashlight to light our path back to the Summer House where our doors remained unlocked.
The only crime in Nantucket is perfection.
Let’s see if Netflix can capture it.
