Friday, August 30, 2024. Yesterday was a cooling after that one day with the temps way up in the ‘90s. But dropping to the mid-60s by late night. But this is the last weekend of Summer for lots of us who work at whatever. It’s conceivable that even the weather won’t change much in the next couple of months.
It’s Dream Day here on the Diary as you may have noticed. They are always interesting because they are deeply private and personal and come from our very personal imagination. Dreams that we remember, I’ve learned, are dreams that were dreamt just before you wake up, which is why they can be memorable. Dreams are our truth; and most revealing in a good way.
Today Lauren Lawrence’s Dream Analysis is of a recurring dream of Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher. I know Georgette the way New Yorkers often know each other – through social meetings, lunches, dinners, charity purposes. We’re often more socially exposed because of the nature of the city life and its business. Georgette is one of those New York women who tends to lead. They are industrious, often socially adept, with a good nature to their personalities. And they are ambitious, which is their ace.
I only know her from her parties and dinners where she is great company and very interesting. Georgette has naturally diplomatic personality and the presence to gain attention; she’s very serious and enterprising.
SOCIETY DREAMS: Georgette Mosbacher
by Lauren Lawrence
The Dream: In my recurring dream I am in a field. It seems to me a farm. I’ve never seen anyone else there, but there are animals. I have gloves on and I’m working in the garden. In the dream I have this workshop where I am fixing and repairing little things. When the dream recurs, I may be in different locations — a field, a garden, a pond — but they are all rural and I have a strong feeling of nature around me. There is a sense of peace and joy — a loneness but not a loneliness.
The Interpretation: This pastoral dream seems to be a respite – far a field from the frenetic urban lifestyle of the dreamer, so there is the wish for seclusion and anonymity. The garden is a reparative symbol – seeds are sown and new growth will follow and flower. But the farm is more of a personal topography than a place – an enduring inner environment where the spirit flourishes and feeds the soul. In a spiritual sense, the garden signifies the beginning of all things. There is nothing superficial here. The work ethic is strong – hands on, if you will. The wish is to be grounded and productive even during sleep.
Wearing gloves, however, reveals a detachment from total immersion in all that is countrified. In this view, the dreamer is not entirely ready to get her hands dirty. As such, one understands why the dream recurs: In that dreams are to the mind what exercise is to the body, the psyche will soon be perfected.
