For many Palm Beachers, this iconic photo by Slim Aarons really evokes Thanksgiving weekend. Friends, family and children, elegantly or sportily dressed, gathered together for some fun in the sun — which at any moment can turn into madness under the palms, becoming family lore for generations.

This Thanksgiving, we were invited to the iconic Palm Beach residence of James and Lisa Cohen, the founder of Galerie magazine.

Originally built for Otto Kahn in 1929, their home is called Oheka, an acronym for Otto Hermann Kahn (O-he-ka). Historian Augustus Mayhew, who has contributed many gems for Palm Beach Social Diary since 2007, has written extensively about Oheka, so we thought it would be fun to bring him along …

Thanksgiving weekend in Palm Beach also saw the grand opening of Karen Murray’s FiveStory at the corner of Royal Poinciana and North County roads, and some special visitors including Dee & Tommy Hilfiger, Kris Jenner, Rubin Singer and Emma Holzer. A former executive at Nautilus, Karen took over the Lilly Pulitzer store on Madison Avenue just before the pandemic broke in 2020 and had a tough first year in retail. But rather than shutting down, she doubled down and opened shop in Southampton — and that made all the difference!
Now fashion lovers everywhere are clamoring for more of the fabulous emerging designers she is discovering and the reworked, sustainable and vintage clothing, jewelry, bags, shoes and other accessories FiveStory offers both in their boutiques and online.

Kathy and Orthon Prounis hosted a fun Thanksgiving weekend cocktail party at their ’60’s chic apartment at the top of Worth Avenue. Guests included the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Meredith Marks, who also designs jewelry which she has shown at trunk shows here in Palm Beach, What2WearWhere’s Karen Klopp, Ala von Auersperg’s Trish Carroll, J. McLaughlin’s Jack Flynch, Steven LaRochelle, Michel Witmer, Melanie Seymour and David Holland, Mark Gilbertson and many others.

Kathy, who recently launched a blog called Kool Kathy, told us, “I feel strongly that a fast paced life shouldn’t take away your style. Through this blog I want to inspire women to get their KOOL on and do it seamlessly so they can do more things.” For “girls who are on the go, with work, kids, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, partners, dogs, etc,” she hopes to give them the tips to stylize their homes, be healthy, entertain, travel and look gorgeous, while doing it all!
